With the diversification of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) applications, the interest in their use in every field, including applied software project management learning and its processes, has been increasing rapidly. One of the most well-known GAI tools is ChatGPT. The use of ChatGPT in applied software project management learning and its processes has become widespread; however, this tool has potential in the project management processes that need to be explored and critically evaluated. This study uses a case study approach to understand the potential of ChatGPT use for applied project management learning and undertakes a student focused on student perspectives on its adoption. Undertaken within an applied software project management course, a cohort of 26 undergraduate students were given a project description and then, in teams of 3 or 4, asked to use ChatGPT in their applied software project management learning. Students identified advantages and disadvantages in using ChatGPT. The main benefits were project idea generation, creating project plans and facilitating debugging, which increased their efficiency and led to completing their projects on time. Disadvantages included ChatGPT giving incomplete or inaccurate responses, providing outdated design, and causing some students to over-rely on AI. While it appears useful to integrate GAI tools into project management courses, appropriate measures should be taken regarding the limitations of this technology.

摘要
