Urbanization is a multifaceted process in which people migrate from rural to urban areas. It is a double-edged sword, having both negative and positive consequences. Urbanization contributes 60% to India’s GDP, and nearly 36.36% of its population lives in urban areas. Industries, quality education, advanced healthcare facilities, scope of employment and access to organizations are the main attractions of urbanization. Urbanization leads to various development activities and attracts foreign direct investment. Bhubaneswar is a smart city in India with great potential to attract huge investment and development opportunities, but it has also led to widespread Displacement. Displacement refers to a geographical shift from one place to another, which has socio-economic ramifications. Development in Urbanization led to displacement, which significantly impacted the livelihood of displaced people. This paper attempts to study how Urbanization-development led to displacement and discusses how it affects the lifestyle and health of displaced people. This study also explores how development-led displacement changes the socio-economic structure of displaced people. It provides a few suggestions that are inclusive in nature and human-centric in approach. Descriptive and analytical methods have been used, and qualitative data have been applied.
