Although rare, CPT continues to be one of the most challenging diseases in orthopaedics. The disease has a variable history and usually occurs during the first decade of life. It is characterized by gradual anterolateral angulation of the distal third of the leg and is associated with fracture non-union. Its incidence is reported to be from 1:140,000 to 1:250,000 live births. CPT is known to be associated with neurofibromatosis type I. Its skin manifestations are known as ‘café au lait spots’ that occur in up to 50% of patients with CPT. CPT may also involve other tubular bones including the radius, ulna and clavicle.
