This study investigates the role of top management team faultlines in fostering open innovation and explores how the application of industrial robots moderates this relationship. With the increasing importance of open innovation in today’s competitive business environment, understanding how internal team dynamics influence innovation is crucial. Using panel data from 633 manufacturing firms between 2016 and 2022, the study finds that top management team faultlines have a positive impact on open innovation by facilitating diverse perspectives that enhance external knowledge integration. Additionally, the adoption of industrial robots significantly moderates the strength of this relationship, further driving innovation within firms. These results highlight the importance of fostering diversity within top management teams and integrating advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence and industrial robots, to optimize decision-making and innovation outcomes. This study contributes to the growing literature on open innovation by demonstrating the interactive effects of team dynamics and technological adoption, offering actionable insights for managers seeking to leverage both to enhance innovation capacity.
