This article investigates the renovation of urban villages in mega and super mega cities through the lens of Management Unit Theory. The paper begins by analyzing the background of urban village renovation and examining a series of pressing issues currently faced, such as unreasonable planning, complex property rights relationships, and a shortage of renovation funds. From the perspective of management units, the applicability of this theory to urban village renovation is explored, using Gucheng Village in Chenggong District, Kunming City as a case study. It delineates morphological areas and property rights areas to create management units and classification control measures for urban village renovation, with the aim of providing theoretical support and decision-making references for future urban village renovation practices, thereby facilitating the development of urban village renovation in a more scientific, orderly, and sustainable direction.
