In the buzz of artificial Intelligence (AI) in all domains, optical fiber sensors and sensing networks are no exception. When the whole world is exploring AI in their own specific applications, the integration of AI in optical fiber sensors also supports its evolution. The current article is an attempt to understand the process and applications. Millions of data are generated wherever there are sensors and so do these optical fiber sensors. AI uses these data as fuel and plays a transformative role in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the sensors, making it smarter. Previously, sensors were expected to measure parameters only at the present moment; however, with advancements in technology and rapidly evolving sensing capabilities, superior sensors are those that can provide critical insights into future parameter measurements, even if not the precise values. Information to future measurements can only be provided if there are enough data of the past and the present. This can lead to the detection of anomalies and preventive maintenance. It can indicate the potential failure or malfunction in the system. It can also be used to predict failure in a system based on historical data. It can help automatic calibration of optical fiber sensors. Integration of AI with optical fiber sensors can enhance the functionality, data processing capability, and can also help in decision making, which is crucial while maintaining the efficiency of the system. This chapter covers the way AI has brought about change in the application of fiber optic sensors and also gives insight on its impact on the sensing network in industrial applications.
