Exploring Women’s Resilience: Flood Phenomena and Female Farmers in Swayimane and Nhlazuka
摘要
This study investigated the situated challenges faced by female farmers in the flood-prone areas of Swayimane and Nhlazuka. Through qualitative interviews and surveys, the researchers gathered data on the experiences, knowledge, and practices of female farmers in the context of flood events. The approach is in turn inflected by ecofeminist and sustainable livelihoods conceptual framework, working from a recognition that women play a crucial and critical role in disaster preparedness and response, as they often bear the primary responsibility for caregiving and household management. The responses show, somewhat predictably that the experience of disasters such as flood events are highly gendered. More critically however, the findings also show the often-neglected valency of the psycho-social and religio-spiritual aspects tied to flooding disaster events for female farmers in these rural communities.
