Opening Up: Engaging the World Through Economics
摘要
Following Mao’s death on September 9, 1976, his interim successor Hua Guofeng, arrested the “gang of four”, seen as the four people most responsible for the Cultural Revolution, including Mao’s radical wife, Jiang Qing. This effectively ended the chaos but left economic, psychological, and physical devastation and many scars in its wake. Hua was succeeded by Deng Xiaoping in 1978. It’s fair to say that China would probably not be the global powerhouse that it is today without Deng’s pragmatic leadership through the early 1990s.
