Resistive Plate Chambers or RPCs are important for charged-particle detection in high-energy physics (HEP) experiments. However, their performance may deteriorate over time as a result of outgassing and ageing effects, affecting long-term detector reliability. This study investigates these potential effects of outgassing and ageing in RPCs, which may compromise sustained high-performance operation. Data was collected using Gas Chromatography (GC) to check the gaseous environment within the detector as the gas exited the system. In addition, both the input gases and the output from the gas mixing unit (GMU) were examined for impurities, moisture, and other potential sources of outgassing. Key performance metrics of the RPC detector, including operating high voltage, leakage-current (I-V), and dark count rate above a threshold, were compared between the 2018 and 2024 data sets to assess any signs of ageing over time.

摘要
