摘要

The silicon (Si) detectors are mostly used for particle tracking in high-energy collider experiments. A sandwich structure of a Si pad array coupled with high-Z material, such as tungsten, if arranged in layers, could be used as an electromagnetic calorimeter for measuring the energy and the shower profiles of high-energy electrons and gamma rays produced in collider experiments. Considering this new approach, 25 Si pad array detectors are manufactured at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bangalore. The detector fabrication is carried out on a 6-inch Si wafer where the design of 8 cm  \(\times \)  9 cm array, consisting of 72 pad cells, each with an active area of 1 cm \(^{2}\) is implemented. The pad arrays are read out using a highly integrated read-out chip named HGCROCv2. Dedicated printed circuit board (PCB) hosting a HGCROCv2 and a readout board capable of processing signals of 20 HGCROCs are manufactured in India. In this article, the design, fabrication and performance test results of 15 layers of Si-W sandwiched calorimeter obtained using Sr-90 electrons and 10 GeV pions at PS, CERN are reported.
