Modern Chinese Thoughts on Rural Education
摘要
During the 1920s and 1930s, China experienced a large-scale movement encompassing rural education and rural reconstruction. The number of rural education experimental areas reached 193, and the rural reconstruction teams numbered 700. Nearly all educators at that time redirected their attention and efforts towards rural areas. Prominent examples include: Huang Yanpei's establishment of the rural education experimental area in Xugongqiao, Jiangsu Province; Yan Yangchu's supervision of the Dingxian Mass Education Experiment in Hebei Province; Tao Xingzhi's leadership in the Xiaozhuang Teachers’ School in Jiangsu Province and the Shanhai Workers’ School in Shanghai; and Liang Shuming's supervision of the Shandong rural education experiment.
