Seawater intrusion is becoming a serious issue in the coastal areas due to the excessive groundwater pumping in Kochi which is a part of the Ernakulam district, Kerala. To combat the present threats, like the excess groundwater extraction and reclamation activities in the coastal regions of the Ernakulum district, it is necessary to develop a groundwater model. This model will aid to project the behaviour of coastal groundwater systems with respect to future environmental challenges. This paper presents the simulation of seawater intrusion in Coastal areas of Kochi through the Finite element flow and mass transport (FEFLOW) model.
