With the increase in urbanization and industrialization over the past many years, the quality of drinking water sources is found to deteriorate day by day. The study focusses on understanding the extent of contamination of an urban waterbody, situated in an industrial belt in Kerala. A detailed study about the waterbody is undertaken in the paper. The concentrations of various heavy metals in the waterbody are studied in the paper. The study further discusses about the health risk that arises out from the present scenario. The Hazard Index (HI), Hazard Quotient (HQ) and cancer risk are determined based on the scientific results obtained from the contaminated water body. The findings of the paper will create an awakening among the concerned authority to facilitate immediate steps for the remediation of the contaminated site.

摘要
