Water scarcity is a pressing global issue affecting communities, industries, and educational institutions. The MES College of Engineering, Kuttippuram, recognizing the urgency of this challenge, initiated a comprehensive project aimed at transforming water management practices on campus. Central to this initiative is a thorough examination of water consumption pat-terns and a detailed analysis of the campus water supply system. The project emerged from the critical need to address water scarcity issues within the institution, underscoring the importance of sustainable water management strategies. The initial phase of the project involved a campus-wide water audit, encompassing all departments, buildings, and hostels. This audit provided an in-depth assessment of water usage patterns and consumption across various areas of the institution. Based on the findings, two key interventions were proposed. Firstly, the design of a Rainwater Harvesting Tank for the Civil Department, intended to collect and store rainwater for various applications, thereby reducing dependence on external water sources and enhancing sustainability. Secondly, implementation of a Slow Sand Filter for the reuse of ablution water, of the campus mosque, enabling its treatment and subsequent use for irrigation, thus contributing to water conservation and environmental protection. These initiatives not only address technical challenges but also serves as a catalyst for cultural change within the campus community, fostering a commitment to sustainable water use and environmental stewardship.
