Abrasion Resistance of Ultra High Performance Concrete

Abrasion erosion damage in hydraulic structures is a common problem which reduces the service life of the structure. Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) is a new class of concrete which exhibits greater durability, strength and ductility including a higher abrasion resistance than Normal Strength Concrete (NSC) and High Strength Concrete (HSC). The mix constituents of UHPC usually contains cement, silica fume, fine sand, fibers and very low w/c ratio. Although the abrasion resistance of UHPC has been studied under various flow conditions, literature on the effects of varying paste content and fiber dosage is still not clear. This study presents the abrasion resistance of UHPC with varying fiber dosage at a constant paste content. ASTM C1138 has been followed for the abrasion test. Results indicate that abrasion resistance decreases with the increase in fiber content.
