Bone tumors, which originate in the skeletal system and its surrounding tissues, account for approximately 1% of all human tumors. Bone tumors predominantly occur in the distal femur, proximal tibia, and distal tibia, as well as other long bones of the lower extremities and the spine (Association TGoCO 2019). Primary malignant bone tumors typically present at a young age, are highly malignant, progress rapidly, and have a high mortality rate. Bone tumors are the third most common cause of cancer-related death in individuals under 20 years of age (Xu Hairong et al. 2016). Historically, patients who are diagnosed with bone tumors often face the prospect of amputation. However, with rapid advancements in imaging technology and neoadjuvant chemotherapy, a treatment strategy combining wide resection and limb-salvage reconstruction, with neoadjuvant chemotherapy as a key adjunct, has become the mainstream surgical approach for treating primary malignant bone tumors (Bosma et al. 2018). Nevertheless, the challenge of managing large, irregular bone defects after tumor resection remains a clinical difficulty. Improper management of bone defects can lead to delayed healing or nonunion, adversely affecting the functional recovery of the affected limb.
