Utilizing Natural Coagulants to Reduce Turbidity in Vehicle Wash Wastewater: A Sustainable Approach
摘要
The increasing volume of vehicle wash wastewater poses a significant environmental challenge due to its high turbidity and contamination levels. Conventional chemical coagulants, while effective, often introduce secondary pollutants and are not environmentally sustainable. This study explores the potential of natural coagulants such as eco-friendly alternatives for turbidity reduction in vehicle wash wastewater. Response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to optimize the parameters for turbidity removal, using natural coagulants such as Moringa oleifera, tamarind, and sesame seeds. The experiments were conducted with a jar test apparatus to evaluate their effectiveness. Results demonstrated that Moringa oleifera achieved comparable turbidity removal to traditional chemical agents while offering the benefits of biodegradability and reduced chemical residue. The study concludes that natural coagulants present a promising, sustainable solution for treating vehicle wash wastewater, potentially reducing the environmental footprint of car washing operations.
