Functional Foods and Mental Wellness
摘要
The complex relationship between functional foods and mental wellness is explored in this chapter, with an emphasis on the effects of selected nutrients and dietary practices on mental health. It begins by going over functional foods and their components, as well as the prevalence of common mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, etc., and the mechanisms by which functional foods affect the health of the brain, including neurotransmitter modulation and neuroprotection. Important bioactive compounds like omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, B vitamins, and minerals are highlighted for their mental health benefits. Specific functional foods such as dark chocolate and fermented foods are explored for their roles in managing conditions like depression, anxiety, cognitive decline, and stress. The chapter concludes with future research trends and the growing role of functional foods in mental wellness promotion.
