Unlike synthetic fibers, BC is biodegradable, produced under environmentally friendly conditions, and does not rely on petroleum-based resources. Its unique properties—such as high tensile strength, water absorbency, and customizability—make it a viable replacement for synthetic and resource-intensive natural fibers. This chapter explores the role of bacterial cellulose in mitigating environmental impacts throughout the textile lifecycle, from production to end-of-life disposal.
