Deep Learning and Representation Learning: Foundational Theories Underpinning Modern AI
摘要
Deep learning has been a major force in contemporary AI research. While the term deep learning gained popularity in the past decade, the underlying methodology originated as artificial neural networks or connectionism. Artificial neural networks, inspired by biological brains, were computational models developed as early as the 1940s. Over time, the focus shifted toward engineering practical models and algorithms that enhance learning efficiency, culminating in the resurgence of neural network research in the 2010s.
