Multimodal Object Concept Formation: Concept Modeling Based on Probabilistic Models
摘要
A concept is an internal representation of a category, which encompasses a set of similar experiences. Concepts allow humans to classify experiences, enabling various cognitive processes. One such process is prediction. Even for unknown phenomena, if they are identified as a subset of a certain category, it is possible to predict unobserved aspects based on the shared characteristics of that category. For example, if an unknown bird can be classified into the category “bird,” one can predict it is likely capable of flight, a common feature of birds. Furthermore, concepts can be combined to generate new ones, such as imagining a golden bird by combining the concepts of “gold” and “bird.”
