Given the high prevalence of injuries, it is unsurprising that there has been a great deal of interest in factors that might reduce the risk of injury or shorten the recovery time in case of injury. One of the main variables explored is nutrition. This chapter aims to provide evidence-based information regarding nutrition for physical sports and their benefits, as well as recommendations to reduce the risk of injury and improve recovery time, focusing on injuries to skeletal muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments. All athletes should consult with a properly qualified health professional who will advocate a “food-first approach” to prevent and manage injuries. While the primary preventative nutritional strategy involves ensuring sufficient total energy intake and appropriate dietary consumption, certain supplements might be beneficial.
