A compact coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed monopole antenna as RF sensor for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system is presented in this work. Operating at 5 GHz Wi-Fi band the proposed sensor gives a perspective in the need of evaluating lateral loading and its effect on antenna characteristics. Being planar in configuration, CPW fed antenna sensor will be much responsive to the applied strain in comparison with the other RF sensors. The sensor characteristics is analyzed using FEM based simulations for antenna characteristics and deformation analysis to quantify the sensor performance under various loads. The resonance frequency shift and bandwidth reduction of the sensor for various load conditions doesn’t affect the impedance matching making the sensor effectively readable.

摘要
