Ayurnutrigenomics: Ayurveda-Inspired Nutrition from Inception to Evidence Using Omics Platform
摘要
For perpetuation of human race as well as prevention and mitigation of diseases, food and medicine are intertwined as per concept of Ayurveda. Food is consumed in large quantity as compared to any drug. The effect and interaction of nutrition with the genome to understand disease and their management is thus essential. Nutritional Genomics emphasis on the interaction between bioactive food components and the genome, which includes Nutrigenetics and Nutrigenomics. Ayurgenomics is a personalized approach in the predictive, preventive, and curative aspects of medicine. It is the study of interindividual variability due to genetic variability in humans for assessing diagnosis and prognosis of diseases, mainly based on the Prakriti. The amalgamation of nutritional practices as per ayurveda with respect to one’s prakriti involving various omics tools for the dietary and therapeutic selection gave rise to the concept of “Ayurnutrigenomics.” It is the emerging field of science involving Ayurveda systems biology, where the selection of an appropriate dietary, therapeutic, and lifestyle regime is made on the basis of clinical assessment of an individual maintaining one’s Prakriti. This Ayurveda-inspired concept of personalized nutrition is a novel concept of nutrigenomic research for developing personalized functional foods and nutraceuticals suitable for one’s genetic makeup with the help of Ayurveda using omics approach.
