The Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368 CE)
摘要
During the reigns of Liao, Song, Western Xia and Jurchen Jin, states founded by various ethnic groups were established. The Mongols founded the Yuan Dynasty and unified China once again. In 1206, Temüjin became the khagan of Mongols and established the Mongol Empire. He soon launched multiple wars across Eurasia. Following Genghis Khan, the Mongol Empire was ruled by Ögedei Khan, Güyük Khan and Möngke Khan before the state was segmented. In 1260, Kublai ascended to the throne, titled the reigning year Zhongtong and made the Central Plains his political center. In 1271, Kublai founded the Yuan state. The rule of the Yuan Dynasty thus commenced. In 1276, the Yuan army invaded the capital of Southern Song, Lin’an, and eliminated the various states that had occupied different parts of China since the late Tang Dynasty. In 1368, the Ming army occupied Dadu of Yuan. The last emperor of the Yuan Dynasty, Emperor Shundi, fled to the north. The reign of the Yuan Dynasty, which started from the establishment of the state by Genghis Khan to the time when Emperor Shundi of the Yuan Dynasty retreated from Dadu, lasted for 163 years, during which time 14 emperors ruled the country.
