This chapter explores the role of Brazilian television in shaping the cultural geopolitics between Brazil and Angola, focusing on the influence of Brazilian media in Angola’s audiovisual culture. Both countries, sharing the Portuguese language, are part of what is referred to as the Communication Contra-Flow, a concept that highlights media exchanges outside traditional Western-dominated flows. Media, including television, plays a crucial role in contemporary diplomacy and international relations. While cultural capital does not directly shape policies, it provides a significant societal context that can influence them. Cultural geopolitics evaluates factors such as history, geography, and mass culture, rather than military and economic power. As a methodologic resource, a historiographic approach was employed, analysing the history of Angolan television and the incursion of Brazilian TV into Angola. Ultimately, it examines how Brazilian television has influenced Angola’s television model and how it shapes social and cultural relations between the two nations within the broader context of media and geopolitics. Additionally, it considers the historical factors that justify the impact of Brazilian television in Angola, extending beyond linguistic aspects.
