Striped Snakehead (Channa striata Bloch 1793) Farming in Indonesia
摘要
Snakehead is an important functional food commodity in aquaculture and capture in Southern and Southeastern Asia. This product, in addition to being consumed as a source of protein in fresh or processed form, can also be used as a raw material for medication. Snakehead contains albumin, which can be used to substitute albumin in humans for wound tissue recovery after surgery (Haniffa et al., 2014; Rosyidi et al., 2019; Lee et al., 2022). According to Asfar et al. (2014), the albumin concentration in snakehead flesh ranged from 14% to 21%. Economically consumption-sized fresh snakehead sells for around Rp. 55,000–75,000 per kg (Saputra et al., 2022), with prices increasing to more than Rp. 100,000 per kg on the online market (Tokopedia, 2023), therefore snakeheads are potentially for aquaculture.
