The freshwater waters of the Sunda Shelf mainland are home to approximately 900 fish species, with over 190 of these being endemic (Prianto et al., 2015). Among these species is the striped wallago catfish (Wallago leerii), a prominent fish found in the Kampar River in Riau (Fig. 4.1). This species is highly valued by the local community due to its large size, reaching up to 1.5 m in length and weighing 35 kg (Yurisman et al., 2010), and its excellent taste. The striped wallago catfish, scientifically known as Wallago leerii, is also referred to by other names such as Wallagonia leerii Bleeker, 1851, Wallago nebulosus Vaillant, 1902, and Wallago tweediei Hora & Misra, 1941 (Roberts, 2014). It is one of the five species within the genus Wallago, which are all predatory catfish with significant economic importance.
