The giant gourami Osphronemus goramy Lacépède (1801) is a freshwater fish native to Indonesia. Giant gourami has high economic value with a price on the market of around Rp.30,000–40,000/kg. The giant gourami has been reared for decades in Indonesia especially Java, Sumatra, and Borneo islands as main gourami producer. Five countries in Southeast Asia that are also being gourami producers are Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore (FAO, 2023). This fish has become one of the main species being farmed and is in great demand in the food aquaculture industry (Amornsakun et al., 2014).
