Currently, there is a vast amount of construction and demolition waste worldwide that is being disposed of into the environment. In Vietnam, according to a report from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in 2011, the amount of urban solid waste generated was about 12.802 billion tons in 2008 and is estimated to be 22.352 billion tons in 2015. Construction and demolition waste accounts for about 10–15% of the total amount of solid waste. The reuse of this construction and demolition waste is an urgent need to promote sustainable development in the construction industry in Vietnam. Studies worldwide have shown that this construction and demolition waste is primarily reused in concrete, referred to as recycled aggregate concrete. Japan is one of the countries with a high concern about recycled aggregate concrete usage by the Japanese Government. As a result, research on recycled aggregate concrete in Japan is also diverse. In Vietnam, recycled aggregate concrete has been mentioned, but it has only been tested and is not widely applied in practice. This paper will explore the feasibility of using recycled aggregate concrete in Vietnam based on the study of its application in Japan.
