A Compact Implantable Antenna at 2.45 GHz Based on Meandered Slots and Shorting Pins for Wireless Body Area Network
摘要
This work proposes a small-sized implantable antenna based on meander line slots and shorting pins for scalp implantation in wireless body area network environment. The presented antenna resonates at 2.45 GHz in the ISM band and has a footprint of 16 × 16 × 1.6 mm3. The antenna is simulated in a homogeneous environment by developing a skin model with permittivity = 38 and conductivity = 1.45 S/m with an input power of 25 mW. The recommended antenna has a − 10 dB impedance bandwidth of 30 MHz and a peak gain of − 25.2 dB at 2.45 GHz. The specific absorption rates (SAR) in the homogeneous and heterogeneous scenarios are found to be 0.293 and 0.329 W/kg which are found to be in compliance with IEEE C.905.1-2005 safety limits. The far-field patterns in E and H planes are directional as required for biotelemetry applications. A prototype is fabricated to verify the simulation results. From the above, it can be confirmed that the presented antenna may be a good choice for wireless telemetry systems.
