Menstrual Practices and Taboos of Females of Reproductive Age in the Largest Mangrove Forest-Indian Sundarbans; Towards Sustainable Lifestyle
摘要
Introduction: Menstruation is a natural physiological process. However, it is still surrounded by taboos passed down from generations. Cultural norms, menstrual taboos, and poor economic conditions significantly contribute to unhygienic menstrual practices. As a result, reproductive females face greater challenges in managing their health and hygiene during menstruation, which can have negative consequences on their health. Objectives: To find out the menstrual practices and menstrual taboos among females of reproductive age in Indian Sundarbans. Method: The study is based on qualitative thematic analysis of responses pooled through a qualitative questionnaire focusing two broad dimensions namely menstrual practices and menstrual taboos. Conclusion: Continuous appropriate awareness program and educational orientation program might be the best weapons to break certain taboos and refute the myths including orienting for appropriate information and knowledge in this regard to avoid many further health and hygiene-related issues in females of reproductive age.
