In this chapter, we draw on the first author’s experiences and reflections leading a University-level task force responsible for developing principles and guidelines to address the emergence of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools (e.g. ChatGPT), and a review of how the World’s leading universities responded to GenAI (Moorhouse et al., 2023) to propose a GenAI design framework and process that colleagues and institutions can refer to when developing or refining their guidance and policies. The framework consists of four aspects: (1) process, (2) principles (3) content and, (4) implementation. The chapter ends with practical examples of how the guidance can be implemented.
