On June 6, 2019, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China officially granted 5G licenses to China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, and China Radio and Television. This milestone marked the official entry of 5G into the commercial stage, and ushered in the dawn of the 5G era. Commenting on 5G technology, Dr. Tong Wen, Chief Scientist of Huawei, noted: “As early as 2013, Huawei established four key technical targets for 5G—peak rates of 1 to 20 Gbps, user experience rates of 10 to 100 Mbps, end-to-end latencies of 1 to 10 ms, and a 1 to 100 times improvement in network power consumption efficiency. These targets were all achieved by 2019”.
