This chapter examines the complex dynamics of compact cities, highlighting their challenges and potential to enhance human well-being. It develops a conceptual framework for measuring spatial cognition in micro-scale interior public spaces. The focus is on urban public realms and interior spaces in high-density, vertical environments typical of many Asian cities. By exploring the relationship between urban morphology and human emotion, the chapter emphasises the need for bottom-up approaches, such as hyper-morphology, to reassess traditional urban design principles.
