Heat Health and Climate Change: Governance in India

Heat is one of the fastest-growing weather hazards, affecting health, ecosystems, and livelihoods. With climate change intensifying, heat waves are bound to increase causing disastrous consequences. This chapter explores the relationship of heat on health in India, with a special focus on its impact on the health of people, living conditions, and means of living. A global contextualization is provided to aid with the impact of rising temperatures on the area of focus, that is, India. It examines the repercussions of heat and analyses the role of existing policies such as Heat Action Plans (HAPs), in addressing the same.
