House to around 65 million people, the Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) is a grouping of low-lying states in three geographical regions: the Pacific and Atlantic, the Indian Ocean and South China Sea, and the Caribbean. The SIDS population primarily depends on natural resources for income due to their geographic settings. These also serve as a source of food supply, water, and livelihood for the communities while holding aesthetic and spiritual value. This chapter examines climate challenges faced by SIDS (including public health risks) and their role in the climate change negotiations. It highlights the need to identify mechanisms and provide advisory support and financing to boost the resilience-building efforts of these islands, which could be effectively initiated through diplomacy and negotiations at the global level.
