Summary and Concluding Thoughts
摘要
The study is an important attempt to document the life world of the Santal margins living as a stigmatised community at the fringes of the city, struggling to be recognised in a globalising metropolis rooted in neoliberal sensibilities. The research, brought out the dilemmas and paradoxes that construct the responses of the tribal margins to survive the city and its dominant social milieu. What this work has attempted is in a way sociology from below- exploring how the tribal margins view the complex tribal-bhadralok relationship while navigating globalising sensibilities. The research captures the Santal subjectivities on their everydayness in a metropolis and also as a group that struggles with the question of where they and their cultural imaginaries stand vis-à-vis the hegemonic bhadralok ethos and the dominant neo liberal sensibilities driving the city of Kolkata, something that is missing in the study of urban margins, specifically in the context of migrant tribes.
