Language-Script Disputes and Formal Learning
摘要
This chapter presents the ongoing tension within the Santal community. Contrasting perspectives emerge on the introduction of Santali language in their ethic script, Olchiki to institutionalise Santali language-script in formal learning. Insistence on choice and usage of Santali in their native script in schools has polarised the Santragachi Santals into two groups—one lobby is in favour of representing Santali in Olchiki to legitimise learning of tribal language-script in school education and the other lobby is resisting the institutionalisation of its usage in formal education as the script is yet to be developed to enable its formalisation .
