Negotiating Journey into the City
摘要
The narratives of causes and contexts for migration from the native origins to the hostile environs of the city and the subsequent stigmatisation of the tribal migrants as urban margins of the Kolkata metropolis, present unique ways in which the identity of the migrant tribe, the Santals is constructed. Living a dual life—native of their homeland of origin and an urbanite of Kolkata—is evident in the profound accounts that, the migrant Santals of Santragachi presented as they navigated the ambiguous terrains of the metropolis.
