摘要

With vulnerable communities reeling under stress—economic, political, social in nature—fostering cooperative links and partnerships have hence, become pivotal. In this sense, development partnerships can facilitate in maximising the positives of building resilient economies and offsetting the associated risks. This chapter provides an overview of the EU’s development partnerships on environment, climate and broadly sustainable development. Section 3.1 details the connection between the ecosystem and the economy. It explores the importance of ecosystem services for the larger benefit of the humanity. Section 3.2 sets the context by outlining EU’s ODA in the domain of environment since the 2000s and how it has evolved to incorporate the SDG narrative. Section 3.3 delineates the major financing instruments under the EU budget for disbursing the development support. Section 3.4 looks at the possible steps to counter the SDG financing challenge by tapping into alternative avenues, such as the private sector, philanthropy, South-South cooperation (SSC) etc. to tackle the geopolitical dragon in the room.
