Tomb Murals of the Yuan Dynasty
摘要
The Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368) was the first period when the regime founded by non-Han peoples dominated the Central Plains. Such an era dealt a huge psychological blow to the literati cultivated by the China Central Plains culture, and this culture was also broadly hit by the political system in the Yuan Dynasty. Under the double blow of mentality and politics, the artistic development in Yuan Dynasty could not parallel that in the previous dynasties in mainstream society; while in non-mainstream society, it developed significantly owing to a large number of unappreciated and dejected literati. Compared with on-the-ground art, the prosperity of tomb murals in the Yuan Dynasty can be seen in terms of large quantities and exquisite images. Especially indebted to the vast territory of the Yuan Dynasty, the tomb murals gained a prominent pluralism development and formed popular artistic features.
