The Song, Liao, Jin, and Western Xia dynasties have been considered special periods in Chinese history. During these periods, the orthodox regime in the Central Plains didn’t own strong military power but had a prosperous economy, which formed a different government system from the past. The central government could remain relatively stable even without relying on military power. This period also witnessed a prosperous development of culture, which benefited from the stable political situation. This also provided sufficient conditions for the democratization of tomb murals.
