Driving Toward Sustainability: Unraveling Factors Behind Alternative Fuel Vehicle Adoption in India
摘要
A fully developed transportation system drives economic growth and requires zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from automobiles. Achieving sustainable development involves eliminating gasoline and diesel vehicles. Recently, countries have promoted sustainable transportation by raising awareness about alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) and the environmental impact of GHG emissions. They are also fostering the AFV industry with subsidies and policies. Numerous studies have identified barriers to the development of AFVs globally. This study aims to gain meaningful insights by finding out the determinants of AFV adoption in India with the help of text analysis. The objective was to find frequently occurring words to gain a meaningful understanding of the consumer’s interests and concerns relating to electric vehicles. Python in Google Collab generated a word cloud from YouTube comments, revealing consumer concerns. “Battery” and “charging” were prominent, highlighting worries about electric vehicle battery life and replacement costs. This study also examined four years of sales data for two vehicle categories: four-wheelers and three-wheelers in India to uncover the impact of government subsidies, exclusively provided to three-wheelers, on the adoption of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) within each segment.
