This paper deals with the analysis of mode choice preferences of the trip-makers residing on the outskirts of Kolhapur city, Maharashtra (India). This study area constitutes 18 rural regions or villages and 2 industrial areas that are required to be incorporated into the Kolhapur city as proposed by the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC). The present transport scenario has evolved significantly over the past few decades, making it necessary to develop an efficient system for faster and safer passenger and goods transportation. Hence, it is proposed to adopt a discrete choice modeling approach to explore the mode choice preferences of trip-makers using statistical package software such as SPSS as part of this study. This research paper focuses on exploring the influence of various socio-economic factors (such as age, gender, household income, household size, trip purpose, occupation, and travel cost) on the mode choice preferences of trip-makers utilizing the approaches of discrete choice modeling. In this study, the criterion for classification accuracy was found to be satisfactory.
