Foreword
摘要
If we understand “culture”, following the German sociologist Max Weber, as a “web of meanings” (Bedeutungsgewebe) spun by humans, then the task of Cultural Sciences (Kulturwissenschaften) is to investigate this web and its various nodes, to examine its historical origins, its mechanisms of operation, and its formative influence on humanity. Furthermore, it involves elucidating how this web shapes humanity’s historical self-understanding and its perception of the world.
