Quantification of Potential Rooftop Solar Photo-voltaic in Hisar: A Web-GIS Integrated Approach
摘要
Solar energy is one of the prominent types of sustainable renewable energy. Currently, in May 2024, India generates nearly 20% of its total power generation capacity with an installed solar capacity of 84 GW. The study makes use of sophisticated GIS and remote sensing technology to evaluate the rooftop solar PV potential in Hisar Assembly Constituency. Footprints of the building were extracted from Google Open Buildings, and Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI) was obtained through filtering using Digital Elevation Model derived by ALOS PALSAR in ArcMap. The study indicated that if the polycrystalline solar panels were installed collectively, it could generate approximately 13.85 GWh/year of energy and reduce the CO2 emissions amounting around 13,713,442.29 kg. In addition, a web-based GIS platform was developed to visualize the findings, facilitating informed decision-making for stakeholders. This approach highlights the significant potential of rooftop solar PV systems contributing to sustainable energy solutions and reducing carbon emissions.
