The era of technological advancements holds higher sensory control over the physical systems that humans have made. Digital twin technologies (DTTs) are examples of transformative technologies that can significantly impact human development. In this chapter, we have explored the details, development, functions, components, applications, similar technologies, features, and characteristics of DTT from civil engineering perspective. This chapter discusses the inclusion of DTT in various civil engineering domains. We explored the major areas of DTT being used in civil engineering projects around the world. Also, various civil engineering projects used DTT specifically for monitoring. We further discuss which types of DTT are being used along with their country of application. Then we discussed the use of DTT in landfill monitoring and optimization. We prepared the flow chart and schematic diagram of the DTT process in the landfill and how it will change the whole scenario of the enhanced monitoring system.
