Adsorption of Heavy Metals Cr6+, Pb2+, Zn2+, and Ni2+ from Aqueous Solution by Peanut Shell Biomass
摘要
The paper investigates how peanut shell biomass can be used as an adsorbent to extract heavy metals (Zn2+, Pb2+, Cr6+, and Ni2+) from water-based solutions. Several variables were tuned, including contact time (60 min), pH (2–5), metal ion concentration (5–50 mg/L), and biomass amount (0.2–4%). At a metal concentration of 25 mg/L and pH 4, peanut shell biomass removed 97% Cr6+, 93% Pb2+, 90.7% Zn2+, and 86% Ni2+. The Freundlich adsorption model analysis showed a fair fit with correlation coefficients (R2 values) for Zn2+, Pb2+, Cr6+, and Ni2+ ranging between 0.9289 and 0.9621. These results imply that peanut shell biomass is an efficient and interesting adsorbent for heavy metal removal from water.
