Design and Analysis of the Performance Level in Assessment of Information Retrieval (IR) System for Ontology e-Learning

There is a rapid growth in the use of e-learning in our educational system. This technology advancement calls for an upgrade of educational system through technology enhanced learning. This research study aims to design and analyse the performance level in the assessment of information retrieval (IR) system for ontology e-learning. The relevance of this study shows that knowledge-based ontology e-learning plays a vital role in teaching, assessment, and learning processes in schools. Furthermore, it shows the interoperability that exists among teachers, learning content, and learners. This research is leveraging on design science research as the adopted methodology. Therefore, the data collection is through teachers and learners on how the module curriculum and contents have been uploaded as the content provider and consumer. The design system for information retrieval assessment is analysed with several metrics including request time per seconds, time per second, transfer rate of information, and time taken for test. The results further depict a transfer rate of information on localhost for 100 requests at current level of 5 is 37169.89kbs as the minimum time for assessment. Overall, the findings confirm that web-based e-learning ontology has a great impact on teaching assessment and learning processes for content information retrieval. Summary: This research aims to assess the performance of an ontology-based e-learning information retrieval system and its impact on teaching, assessment, and learning processes in educational settings. The results show that the accuracy on the information retrieval assessment of e-learning ontology and reflect the explicit relationships between learners and learning contents.
